I Wrote My Way Out

After years of leveraging my creativity to sell everything from protective underwear to plastic bags, I’m setting it free.

For some of you this won’t be a surprise.

You knew - even when I was building multi-million dollar programs - that I was always writing. Always creating. Always making way for a new story and a new way to tell it.

I was presenting our partnerships to Disney executives in multi-sensorial productions, creating intricate fragrance presentations with the illustrious Verdeep Schwarz, and turning conference rooms into color-changing stages with sound mixing and video. I was writing parody songs and pulling together a full band to sing at sales conferences.

I have always been a creator, and I have never fit comfortably in any box built by any man.

So, I’ve stopped trying.

I didn’t get here cleanly. Don’t mistake this transformation for bravery. It’s not. Like all the best things in life - it took a Universal Overhaul to wrench the decision right out of my hands. Injuries, near death experiences, and the violent upturn of the economy all had a hand in my “rebirth”.

On the other hand, so did gifts from those who love me, healthcare from one of the best teams in the world, and support from friends who reached out across miles and decades to help me secure my new unsteady future.

I keep hearing in my head “I wrote my way out” from Hamilton.

But, it’s not an exact match because he felt alone in that moment, and I never have. I’ve had a steadfast community with me on this journey and they are - amazingly - with me still.

So, I’m coming out.

I’ve been writing a lot, and I’m not waiting for anyone else to produce it. I’m taking my 13 years leading Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camps, my 10 years of experience creating, producing, and acting in New York, and my 10 years of creating Brand Programs for Fortune 10 Companies and I’m just making things. I’m making all the things I can with whatever time I have left to me on this earth.
